In response to a Request for Freedom of Information, the town has released termination costs incurred over a six year period. The request asked for total severances paid to Town of Huntsville employees and former employees by lump sum payments, salary continuations, pension top ups, benefit extensions, legal fees and consultation fees for the period of December 12, 2006 to Sept 20, 2014.
The report, made public at yesterdays Corporate Services Committee meeting, outlined a payout of $1,093,642.50 during that time and covered payouts to 20 town employees.
The report went on to say that 9 were layoffs related to the strategic initiative restructuring announced recently by the town.
The remaining 11 were terminated under a variety of categories including discrimination, theft, violence in the workplace, harassment, breach of security and free will.
During the 6 year period the town saw a significant amount of high level staff changes.
