The 3rd week of October is being marked as a Week Without Violence. Beth Ward of the YWCA, spoke at council on Monday advising councillors about the effects of “interpersonal violence”. She described interpersonal violence as violence that occurs between any two people, at home, at school, and in the workplace. It involves all permutations such as spousal abuse, elder abuse, sexual abuse and bullying.
Ward also said that 50% of all women over 15 experience some form of physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
Education, employment, and health are all factors that contribute to interpersonal violence.
