The source of an abundance of silt in the Magnetewan River has been identified. An investigation by the MNR reveal the silt and sediment that made the river look like chocolate milk was caused by a mudslide at a solar farm currently under construction on Chetwynd Rd near Burks Falls.
The property owner has since installed mitigation strategies including installing silt fencing and straw bales in low lying areas.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is following up on the case, as the influx of silt is damaging to the fish habitat.
