Daylight savings ends on Sunday, at 2:00 a.m. and the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is reminding residents to install new batteries in their smoke alarms when they change their clocks this weekend.

Fire Chief Steve Hernen say that when you change your clocks this weekend, the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department would like everyone to take the time to install new batteries in all smoke alarms.

In order to survive a fire, he says, you need to be provided with an early warning and know what to do when the smoke alarms sound. It’s the law to have working smoke alarms on every storey of the home and outside all sleeping areas.

Tampering with, or removing the batteries from your smoke alarms is against the law, which can result in prosecution under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
