A group of Ilfracombe residents came before the Corporate Services Committee on Tuesday to ask the town to take on a former school building owned by Trillium Lakelands School Board so it could be used as a community centre.
The committee turned down the request to purchace the building from the schoolboard citing the current state of repair of the building and the towns policy on community halls.
Recently the town has altered the way town halls operate, in some cases leasing out the buildings to community groups or structuring the management of the halls under the umbrella of the town.
