Fire Prevention Week starts on Monday and the Huntsville & Lake of Bays Fire Departments will be out in force  urging residents to “Have 2 Ways Out”.

Chief Hernen says that when a fire strikes, your home could be engulfed in smoke and flames in just a few minutes. Having a tried and true escape plan with 2 ways out is essential to ensuring your family safety should a fire break out in your home.

The Fire Dept recommends that every family make a map of your home with 2 ways out of each room, and designate a safe specific meeting place outside the building.  You should practice your plan with everyone in the family and have a plan to assist anyone who may need help escaping, such a young children, older adults and people with disabilities.

Fire Prevention Week runs from Oct 7 to 13.
